“WHAT YOU DID WAS CONTRIBUTE TO MY KIDS BECOMING THE CAPABLE, INDEPENDENT, INQUISITIVE GRADE-SCHOOLERS THEY ARE NOW.”

 Profile

I was born and raised in this beautiful city of San Diego. My mother is one of fourteen children so growing up I was always around my extended family. Together my cousins and I make a massive group of 24 and we basically consider ourselves brothers and sisters. With that said I have always been around children and family. With such a big family, I learned that building relationships were truly an important aspect of my everyday life. Everything we do thrives on the relationships that we build with one another.

My very first job in college was right here at SDSU at the “Campus” Children’s Center. I worked in the kitchen my freshman year with the hopes of moving into the classroom once I got some Child Development units under my belt. By my second semester I became a toddler teacher. Throughout my undergrad I continued to work at the Children Center until I graduated with my BS in Child and Family Development in 2001.

From there I went on to teach as a Preschool Teacher with Head Start where I eventually became a Director for one of their centers. Somewhere along the way I found my way back to SDSU where I became the Supervising teacher for Preschool East. During my time here, I made the decision to go back to school and get my Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction. I then spread my wings again and left SDSU for the Navy Child Development Programs where I was a Training & Curriculum Specialist. It was there I help develop the Navy Child Care programs in San Diego and trained their staff from food handlers, CPR, to the latest in Child Development. My story then brings me back here to present day where I have been given such a wonderful opportunity to be the Director of the SDSU Children’s Center.

When I am not at the Children’s Center I enjoy spending time with my family, friends, and our little pug. The greatest joy of my husband and I is to experience life through the eyes of our children. They have been such a blessing and joy to our lives that each day brings fourth new excitement as they experience life’s joy each day.
