 Profile

Hello, my name is Marcos Avila and I am a new master teacher at the SDSU Children's Center. I am so thrilled and excited to meet everyone. I was born and raised in and around San Diego. I am the oldest of three siblings and I have two lovely dogs named Cher-man Rose McShepherd and Bear Arthur. I love to sit back and watch movies, and play video games to help me rest and relax in my free time. If I'm lucky, I'll be spending time with my friends and cousins. My favorite places to visit are hands down a zoo trip or eating out at Korean barbecues.

I have had my heart set on being a teacher early on in my life, I had been volunteering in Kinder, T-K and Preschools in San Ysidro for over 15 years. I even helped out in special day classrooms as well. Creating those interpersonal relationships across all spectrums and having the ability to work around a wide variety of learning obstacles. I was always impressing veteran teachers on my ability to navigate and scaffold lessons tailored to very unique individuals. I enjoy helping students reach their fullest potential . I grew up in a similar environment to a lot of the children I helped educate.

So I always knew the importance of how far a great education can take you.  The endurance you can build when you have people who believe in you as, well as, supporting you. Having that strong presence of a community that was warm, loving and nurturing I knew I had to apply myself harder to making sure people like me were well represented. That is what I really appreciated when I found out about the Children's Center and how they strive to bring out the fullest potential of every child they meet.

I always believed that children had unlimited potential no matter where they started from and what resources they have. That was the main reason why I kept pushing myself. I was able to graduate from San Diego State University in 2020 and again in 2022 from the credential program. I started at the children's center back in 2017 as an intern then in 2019 I began working as an assistant teacher. I have worked hard applying myself, growing my confidence and skills in the center quickly rising from assistant to associate to even a lead associate teacher. I am so very honored to continue to work and grow at the center and hope to be here for many more years.
