 Profile

Hello, my name is Cierra Mcgee and I am a Master Teacher at the Children's Center. I am excited to meet you all. I was born and raised around San Diego. I am the oldest of three sisters and we have two wonderful dogs as part of our family, Koa and Kloe. In my free time I enjoy reading and making memories with friends and family. My favorite forms of self care are going out on walks with my dogs or taking the time to make myself a delicious meal.

Before I enrolled at SDSU, I had been volunteering in a children's classroom for about nine years with 3 year old's. I particularly enjoyed working with children who were slow to warm or were having trouble adjusting to a new environment because it was that much more special when they smiled or opened up.

While working on college entrance essays, a high school teacher asked us to focus on something we enjoy and that we were passionate about. I realized volunteering with those children was becoming the highlight of my week and I wanted to find a way to turn that passion into a career. That experience is what led to me enrolling at San Diego State as a Child and Family Development undergrad.

Children have limitless potential and are eager to interact with and explore their environment. I firmly believe in supporting each child learning at their own pace and in their own way. In 2020 I graduated from San Diego State with a Bachelor's degree in Child and Family Development. I began at the Children's Center in 2017 as an Assistant Teacher and have been here ever since. I am most thankful for the supportive team that I have been able to work and grow with over the years. After starting in an infant's classroom and moving through the cottages, it feels quite full circle to begin anew in an infant room. What I love the most about the Center is our continuity of care practice that allows the teachers, children, and families to develop trusting long-term relationships through the years.
