Master Teacher

Rachel Tolentino

I am the youngest child of seven children from a loving home. My Dad was a civil engineer and my Mom was a “domestic engineer.” I was born in the beautiful island of Palawan, Philippines, where one of the “New Seven Natural Wonders” is located and was rated ”Best Island” in the world by “Travel and Leisure” and other travel magazines. My first teaching experience was at a university, while pursuing my graduate studies in Sociology. It was also there that I fell in love with another graduate student and thus, my M.A. (Master of Arts) became M.D. (Marriage degree). We have been blessed with two sons, who are both married now making us a family of six and praying for more. The joy of nurturing and rearing our sons was what motivated me to work with children. I studied Child Development in Toronto, Canada and this is now my 19th year in working with children, (13 years in the Center) I love it! I continue to update my knowledge of Child Development through readings, seminars, trainings, and most of all, by working with the children and their families, my colleagues, and our university students. When I am not working, I love to read and cook my family’s favorite foods. I love to sing even if I don’t have an “American Idol” voice. I make up songs to sing to the children to give them “instructions” or just for fun, but most of my songs and rhymes I learned from my Mom, who was a kindergarten teacher.
